Umbrellaverse AU Background
Vex knows little about his parents. He's seen a picture of his mother holding him. A dark haired woman with sharp features and a look of fear in her eyes. He's told his father was an older man, someone who wasn't married to his mother, and neither of them had wanted a child. They made no mention of his birth to anyone, a birth that neither of them had expected that moment at high noon on the first of October. They didn't tell their families, and they hadn't responded to the demands of an old man from America who wished to see the child. That was how he referred to the boy in his letter. The child.
For a time his mother thought she might keep him, to raise him as a cousin's baby and allow herself to have a child, even without the husband and the home and all the trappings that should come with it.
All of those hopes though ended the moment the boy, in a fit of childish rage, had pointed angrily at another child on the playground and sent the boy backwards as if he'd thrown him, slamming the four year old into a playhouse and breaking two of his ribs, one arm, and his femur. That moment had ended all of her dreams of a family with the boy, and soon after she found a way to be rid of the child before others realized he wasn't merely a bully with a temper.
Morrigan had promised his mother to take good care of the boy and, in a way, she had.
He had wanted for little growing up. Raised in a private all boy's school where his behavior was ignored for money, and he earned that money for the things he did for his "mother". If she wanted a safe opened, he controlled the person with the code to open it. If she wanted someone to see her and they were avoiding Morrigan, Vex would find them, and mesmerize them to march down to her offices and report. And when Morrigan wanted someone dead, Vex saw to it that they were found dead, often declared a suicide, and if the deaths were particularly gruesome and should have worried others, it only made Morrigan reward him more generously.
At nineteen she bought him a club, Carpe Noctem, and provided him with the clout and backing he needed for it to be everything he wanted. A dark and dangerous bdsm club with a line out the door, and a wine cellar that lured in the rich, famous, and infamous for liaisons that ran the gamut from light to dark and everything in between.
People know of what Vex can do, or more importantly, what he can make others do. They know he is a mercurial creature with dark and pain filled appetites that he explores every chance he has. A man with little morals, few laws that can govern him, and an ability that allows him to control and violate people in every way imaginable. And he has an extensive and wicked imagination.
